Our group's first meeting was held on the 20th of March, Saturday, 2pm at Yunxuan's house. We polished up the Mock presentation and decided on Civics and Moral Education (CME) as the common CS for lesson ideas. CS Chinese was not selected as we wanted to introduce novelty to the teaching of CME. We decided to expand the lesson idea from the mock presentation and agreed on using "Responsibility" as the theme for the entire lesson idea PowerPoint package.
We browsed through the MOE 2007 CME syllabus and saw that there are 4 sub-topics under Responsibility. Out of the 4 sub-topics, we chose 3 and agreed that each of us would take charge of one of them. Then, we went through the Lesson Idea Summary and set objectives to be fulfilled through the activities. We also brainstormed for lesson activities that incorporated the use of ICT Tools. While brainstorming, we discovered that it is really difficult to incorporate ICT tools into the lesson as most ICT tools demands certain level of IT skills and as such, pupils may not have the ability to harness such tools. In addition, incorporating ICT into lessons may make the it mundane and hence, not practical and efficient in bringing across lesson ideas to students. Some activities ideas that were thought out was also thought to be cliche and hence not selected for usage. It is thus a challenge to balance interesting ideas with ICT tools.
With the rough lesson outline, we decided that each of us would being creating PowerPoint slides for our sub-topic and are to add in our own insights along the way. We would have to finish our part by the next meeting, which would most probably be on the 24th of March, Wednesday, so that we would be able to polish up the ideas as a group on the next meeting. We also agreed that this aspect of the group assignment should be finished ASAP so that we can devote more time to Lesson Idea Summary and the 12 minutes presenation.
With that, the meeting adjourned at 5.30pm.
